Dear Colleagues

I am pleased to attach the Economy / Market Snapshot covering all the major events in July, 2019

Indian Markets were down by 5% in July with the Nifty coming closer to 11,000 levels. Uncertainty on the issues with US, China-US trade war issues, taxation on FII’s etc weighed heavily on the markets. All the sectoral indices were down with Auto losing about 13% and Bank Nifty losing about 7%. FII’s pulled about Rs.11,850 crores from the equity market while Domestic Institutional Investors invested about 8,700 crores. Indian Rupee closed at Rs.68.79 for 1 US $.

On the Global markets front, Nasdaq and FTSE went up by 2%, Nikkei up by 1%. Hang Seng and Shanghai lost about 1%. Gold went up by 1% and Silver went up by 10%. Crude went down by 2%.

The fall in India has been so steep with the market losing about 5% in a month. Need to see whether this will go further down or is it an opportunity to get in ?

Happy reading!…….

Regards
V Murali
